Tone Picker is a ringtone picker replacement, based heavily on Rings Extended app written by Dianne Hackborn. The source code of Tone Picker is available here http://github.com/lithium/tonepickerYou can use Tone Picker to set MP3s (or any built-in tone) for SMS, IM, Email, Ringtone, Notification, Alarms, Calendar, etc.
It has volume sliders and quick-set ringtone and notification functionality.
The developer promises that Tone Picker will always be free.
