APNdroid it is a toggle-application that can enable/disable Access Point Names (APN) to connect to internet. If you are not going to use internet for a while, you just toggle the button and the app will prevent your phone from connecting to net over 3G/EDGE/GPRS, leaving you with the basic voice call/SMS capabilities of a standard cellphone. So you can save the battery power.

The trick is that APNdroid renames your access point names and types by adding the suffix to them.

Note: Uninstall with enabled internet, or you will need to change APNs manually.

The app is not designed for CDMA networks.
Nexus One random reconnect issue is caused by Android bug #2207.
